The Dual Range Fuzz is hand crafted effect pedal based on our MK 1.6 Fuzz circuit. The Dual Range Fuzz takes performance to a new level by adding an additional boosted fuzz mode that can be fine-tuned for extra gain and volume. All transistors are high quality NOS devices, hand selected and tested in each circuit.
The controls are simple but highly effective - 'Attack' dials up the fuzz and 'Level' sets the overall output of the effect, which ranges from soft to sonic destruction. The Boost controls interact with the standard Attack and Level controls to provide an extremely diverse palette of tones, ranging from boosted cleans to searing fuzzed out mayhem. You can set the pedal up to create two quite distinct tones or maybe add just a touch of extra grunt to your rhythm tone for cranking out a lead.
The Dual Range Fuzz is designed to provide a high level of output when desired and is capable of a significant volume boost - this fuzz will not disappear in the mix when engaged.
There's also a little Boost Low Cut switch which shaves off bottom end when in Boost mode and the Gain is fully cranked. Switch in the up position gives you full range fuzz, switched in the down position reduces bass response to give you extra cut in the mix.
Raising the level also hits the input of your amp harder and interacts with tube preamp stages to produce beautiful overtones and a wide range of overdrive and distortion tones through to raging fuzz. Subtle changes in pick attack and tweaks to your guitar's volume and tone controls offer up unlimited avenues for expression.
Note: Germanium version has a +ve ground and must be used with the battery or an isolated power supply. You cannot daisy chain power with other pedals. Most modern power supplies with individual outlets will work fine.
The circuit is built upon a custom-made board with the highest quality components and an obsessive attention to detail. The Dual Range Fuzz is both battery powered and includes a DC power socket (standard centre negative, 2.1mm plug). The battery is disconnected from the circuit when DC plug inserted so you can leave hooked up on your board.
Each Pedal is built by hand, one at a time, and individually voiced to optimize its specially selected pair of transistors. This means no two pedals are exactly the same - they all have unique attributes and components are chosen to enhance the sonic qualities of each circuit.
All pedals come complete with a custom carry bag, signed and numbered certificate of authenticity and instruction card.

Most fuzz pedals do not appeal to me. It took me a while to find one that I liked the sound of. What I liked about that pedal, was that there was a well considered approach to using eq and how the tone knobs interact with the fuzz. It had more restraint than a lot of fuzz pedals.
The dual range goes about tone shaping in a different way. The interaction between volume and gain yields some very pleasing results that can add a light fizzy sparkle to your clean tone, or a full-on monster fuzz tone.
The fizzy sound is different from a typical overdrive breakup. If “fizzy” doesn’t sound appealing, you needn't worry. It sounds great, just different.
Once you start messing with your guitar volume, the fuzz cleans up in a nice way. I think there is a lot of tone shaping that happens between the volume knob on the guitar and the pedal.
I have had this pedal for a month now, and the boost circuit is interesting, in that it feels different to a typical overdrive pedal boost. Playing individual notes can sound brash, or maybe a little sharp. Then you change the level of boost a bit, and it smooths out, and then moves to a compressed feel. There is a lot to mine.
So far, I experimented with this pedal using a
Tone King Gremlin amp, tele single coil, strat sss, P90’s, and some unidentified humbuckers from mid 90’s Gibson.
There is a lot of subtly in this pedal, but it also packs a wallop. I highly recommend it.
I am not the biggest fuzz fan, however, this fuzz is AWESOME. The sound is amazing & the build quality is top tier.
I’ve had many fuzzes over the years, and it’s always seemed that the more volatile and unpredictable they are, the more fun they are.
So I was shocked when I plugged in my Dual Range Fuzz and discovered it could roar with the best of them but also deliver extremely functional lower gain tones on top of cleaning up really well. I’d gotten used to riding the volume knob to find the sweet spot I was looking for with most fuzzes but the DR lets you dial in a full-throated but less saturated sound for the first stage before letting you kick it all the way up with the boost stage.
Amazingly, the fully saturated sound can still cut through a mix with Lo Cut engaged, and it also works great with an edge of breakup boost behind it. Plenty of level on tap as well.
I’m blown away by the physical quality of the unit and its extremely responsive warmth and growl.
I’ve never kept a fuzz pedal on my board because I was never happy with tones I got but this dual range fuzz will be a permanent fixture! Incredible tone and clean up with a little guitar volume control! The boost controls are epic as well!
Thanks Tim!
I'm lucky enough to own lots of great fuzzes – but the Dual Range Fuzz is one I always come back to – time after time, as Cyndi Lauper sang. It's the sound in my head, and what I use as a baseline for a 'killer' fuzz tone.
Speaking of tone, the Dual Range Fuzz is the best representation of a Tone Bender MK 1.5 variant. I love how harmonically rich it is, with lots of overtones, while also being full-bodied and throaty. You can use the footswitchable boost to drive it harder, or as a cleanish boost – endlessly versatile and useful.
My personal Dual Range Fuzz has a perfectly paired and voiced, low/medium gain RCA 2N414 and Texas Instruments 2N1307. If you don't understand the numbers (I hardly do), it basically means that fuzzes are as fickle as they get and the builder (and his ears) play an incredibly important role in tuning/voicing the fuzz. Thankfully, Tim is as good as they get, and the Dual Range Fuzz sings and sustains, whispers and thunders like an absolute rockstar.
You may have heard all the buzzwords before, saying you get lost in the mix blah blah blah. Not with this! It’s voiced absolutely perfect for higher headroom amps. Absolutely screams into every single one of my amps, and the boost with the low cut option made this instantly appeal to me as someone who plays in a dense mix. With that option even into cranked amps you’ll stand out in the solos. Rolling back your volume treats you to a great overdrive tone too.
This is an incredible fuzz pedal Tim came up with. Extremely versatile with the boost switch and conrols and very practical for live use to get that extra kick and volume.
Gorgeous thick fuzz with the fuzz control up and great rhythm tones with lower settings. Love the bass cut switch too. Would suggest this to any fuzz head out there! Great job Tim!
I got a hybrid Ge-Si version of this some time back, and it's been a super-tasty addition to my board. My setup's not too big, so the Boost footswitch is a very welcome option for leads/solos.
